Is Noah a priest?
Quote from: Genesis 8:20
Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it.
May you prosper greatly!

Wouldn't all NT heros be considered priest, technically?
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

The definition via the REG:
A priest is one who is duly authorized to minister in sacred things, particularly to offer sacrifices at the altar, and who acts as mediator between men and God. Priests are in charge of sacrifice and offering at worship places, particularly the tabernacle and Temple. Other functions are blessing the people, determining the will of God, and instructing the people in the law of God. The office of priest is hereditary.

Since the priest definition here requires a special authorization, as well as heredity, it looks like Noah is only as much a priest as Moses is a judge.

yeah, he knows that, Maniac was just taking the first argument to a logical conclusion.  If noah is a priest simply because he built an altar, then you have to include Abraham/Jacob/Joshua/Samuel/Elijah/even Ahaz (we have an altar of Ahaz right?)

RTS maniac was just saying that in the NT we have a "priesthood of believers" so arent all NT heros priests?

the answer is no and I vote no for noah (and everyone else on my list too)

OT priests are those from the levitical clan who were chosen to perform priestly funcions

That's good (just heard some interesting answers on a radio show last week of what people know about the Bible (e.g. one person thought that Sodom & Gomorrah were lovers).

Then again, we have Priests of Christ, which obviously doesn't quite fit that requirement...

Yeah, we also have a slew of emperors, and St. patrick (who is also a priest) but we wont go there.

Rob has expanded the defininon of priest to include NT induviduals filling the role of a priest similar to the OT version (much like the way catholic priests are priests)

General NT heros are not priests just like they are not all prophets or apostles.  But we do have a generalized preisthood of believers but that is not the definitions used for the mechanics of the game.  I guess PoC is there to represent the general priesthood of all believers summed up into one NT character

Noah made sacrifices, the others I don't recall doing that.  I don't think anyone can argue that Noah didn't perform a priestly duty.  I was just wondering if that was enough to make him a priest for Redemption.

An interesting verse to consider when thinking about the issue of heredity is Hebrews 7:9-10.

There's Melchizedek, there's the Aaronic line, and there's the generalized PoC.  That's pretty much it.

If we started making priests out of everybody who offered up a sacrifice, then suddenly you're arguing for Cain, Abel, Abraham, etc.

Don't forget Saint Patrick. ;)

FWIW, I agree that Noah doesn't qualify as a priest.

Whew, I'm glad to hear that. For a minute there I was worried that I might be considered a Priest because I sacrificed hotdogs on the propane powered Coleman Flame-O-Matic Turbo 5000 Bar-B-Q altar the other night.
On a lighter note, I still think Moses should be a Judge, but that is a different thread altogether.

I agree with this, especially since the quote on judges seat specifically mentions moses as a judge.

but you are right, that is another thread...

What about Jethro? He doesn't seem to fit any of these definitions.

If that is the case then jesus is a 4/4 teal priest with a fairly weak special ability.
