If used by a disciple negate and discard an evil card in play or set-aside. Can you interrupt an evil CHARACTER with this card? and if so, how does interrupting an evil character work?

My Lord and My God doesn't interrupt, it negates.  Often you get the same end result but there is a difference.  Negating an Evil Character will stop it's SA.

So the EC's special ability is negated and the EC is discarded when this card is played to target an EC?

But if your loosing the battle by removal then you would have to interrupt the enhancement first right?

Correct. You could play an enhancement that ITB and does something (i.e. return EC to hand, or negates MLaMG) or you could play an ITB, draw 3 cards, and play the next enhancement.

However, an ITB or Negate-last card is the ONLY enhancement you can play at this time.

If I remember right, I was told that Flaming Sword negates numbers too. (Negate one evil enhancement played in current battle.)

If this is correct, then what happens when you play MLaMG against Judas, who won't be discarded, since his ability is CBN? Do you negate numbers too, like Flaming Sword? It has the same wording, why would it only stop the SA?

I wasn't aware that one could negate numbers.

It depends on whether the numbers on Characters are also negatable. I'd hazard a guess that only the abilities on Enhancements are Negatable.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

+1 Nagating numbers on characters is just plane wierd. Besides if you could nagate numbers judas is CBN so would that make his numbers CBN also. Can we get an official ruling on this?

I don't know that negating the numbers on a character has ever come up before.  I would guess that character numbers cannot be negated.

Please rule that character numbers can be negated. Just to break the game? Please?  :prayer:

I agree with Ring Wraith that (in the past) it was ruled that if the card said "negate a card" rather than "negate a SA," that the numbers would also be negated. However, the ensuing discussion was inconclusive IMO. I have never allowed a negate to affect the numbers based on the definition of "Negate" in the glossary of the rulebook:

Negate
Negate stops and prevents a targeted special ability or card. The negate ability is played in the Field of Battle. It can undo another card already played unless the card explicitly states it cannot be negated. Negate is the same as ‘interrupt and prevent’ combined. A negate ability interrupts a special ability, and then prevents that special ability for the rest of the battle.

The first sentence says "SA or card," but I still believe that "Negate" only targets SAs based on the last sentence. There are those who would also say that parts of the rulebook are outdated, so the whole thing cannot be trusted (see also REG). However, I have always been of the opinion that present rules and definitions stand unless otherwise decided by the PTB.

My understanding of the different kinds of negates:

"Negate the SA of an enhancement" - only negates the SA, the numbers still count
"Negate and discard an enhancement" - negates the SA, the numbers don't count anymore
"Negate an enhancement" - negates the SA & numbers, but the cards stays in play

That's the way I used to understand it as well, but then I think of it this way: If an Evil Character was protected from discard, and you targeted it with MLaMG, then you would only be negating it. I wouldn't think that simply negating an EC would make him 0/0 all of the sudden, so I think that in order to be consistent, numbers on enhancements also can't be negated.

As I said, the discussion was inconclusive, as evidenced by the two posts above this one.

We will need a final ruling that must be added to the appropriate "New Rulings" thread, since there will be plenty of hosts for whom this will be a new ruling regardless of which way we go.

Interrupt and Prevent are both clearly defined to only affect SAs. Negate most closely resembles these game mechanisms, so I will continue to support the default that negate only affects SAs.
