Music Leader Q

Easy Q, and this might have even been brought up before, but do non-optional failed searches still count for the Leader? Such as:

A. Joseph attacks, there's nothing he can search for. Does the Leader trigger?
B. Chariots o' Fire after a rescue attempt, there's nothing there. Does the Leader trigger?

Music Leader:

If an opponent uses a draw or search ability (not a Musician), you may search deck or discard pile for up to two good cards involving music.
If you were to go on a trip... where would you like to go?

A search still takes place even if you don't find what you're looking for.
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

What if someone attacks and draws while rain becomes dust is up. Did they use the draw ability even though the cards are being instead-ed to discard pile?

The definition of "use" needs to fleshed out a little better, for sure, but in this case there was no draw ability, something else happened "instead."  Per the way instead works, that original effect 'never happened' and so you can't have said to have used it.
