Multiple Artifacts Active at One Time Due to Fortresses

If I have Herod's Temple and Zerubbabel's Temple both active, and I have the correct Temple artifact on each of the fortresses, can I then have an artifact also active on my artifact pile, which then would mean I have 3 active artifacts?

Clever thinking, Lance! There are ways to have more several Artifacts active at a time through abilities, similar to what you're trying to do. However you may not have both temples in play at the same time.

The Tabernacle (Pi), Solomon's Temple (Pa), Solomon's Temple (XXVI), Zerubbabel’s Temple (FF), and Herod's Temple (Di) are considered the same unique Fortress. You may have no more than one in play (or set aside) at a time.

One more follow-up question. If someone discards my fortress that has an artifact active on it, does it get discarded too?

It sure does.  The same goes for a character that has an artifact on it (such as Magic Charms).
