Currently, both Schaef and Bryon agree that it does indeed give initiative to the evil character, meaning it can be Negated.

For right now, that is how I would rule it.

That's probably how it should be ruled, even if it in inaccurate to the game rule (which it doesn't seem to be anyway).

Hey Bryon, just a heads up, you misspelled "In" when you redid your article, it currently reads "io"
Thanks!  fixed.

That's fine, but does the hero get the lost soul if the EC doesn not negate it?

I'll let someone else give you an OFFICIAL ANSWER IN ALL CAPS, but my gut says no.

No. It is still a mutual destruction by removal, so the hero still loses the battle, just as if the hero doesn't interrupt Zimri's ability.

7/4 Hero rescues
6/6 EC blocks
EC has created mutual destruction by numbers.  IF the battle ended here, the Hero WOULD win, but the rules say only this: If mutual, then it's the next guy's turn.
Hero gets initiative to play.  If nothing is done to change the situation, the battle will end with the Hero winning the Lost Soul.

Gold (human) Hero rescues
Red Dragon blocks
Hero plays Formal Training, immune to crimson
The Hero has created a stalemate.  IF the battle ended here, the EC WOULD win, but the rules say only this: If stalemate, then it's the next guy's turn.
EC gets initiative to play.  If nothing is done to change the situation, no Lost Soul is rescued.

Gold Hero rescues
EC blocks
Hero plays Samson's Sacrifice.
Hero has created mutual by removal.  IF the battle ended here, the EC WOULD win, but the rules say only this: If mutual, then it's the next guy's turn.
EC gets initiative to play.  If nothing is done to change the situation (i.e. the removal is not interrupted), no Lost Soul is rescued.

Note that all three of these situations play out the same:
- all three use the four-row table to determine initiative to play the next card
- all three pass initiative based on this table and not based on the potential end-of-battle results
- all three pass initiative to the guy who is next to play, even though in all three scenarios, the one gaining the initiative is in a position to have a favorable outcome

Explain the flaw in my logic and we'll go from there.
