Probably because they're some church traditions that don't recognize him as a martyr.
I don't disagree with you but based off responses from other posts, that's what most elders have been saying about other possible martyrs. They have a definition for what a martyr is for redemption purposes and I'm sure they've examined all the disciples to see if they fit that definition.

A complete definition including how many sources you need and how many traditions you need to qualify someone to be a martyr has not been posted.
