couple problems here: 

In teams you and your teammate share your fortresses and all cards on the fortresses.  If your teammate has Joshua in a fortress then you are considered to have Joshua out also and cannot put another Joshua in play because of the unique character rules. 

In teams you only share fortresses and LOB so once Joshua is released, it goes back to the owner (your teammate) and you can only use a hero in your control, not your teammates, to start a rescue attempt.

Even if you could band to Joshua, if you have already used Joshua in a rescue attempt that turn, you can't use him again because of the rule that a character can only enter battle once a turn.

Yes, only the forts and LOB are shared directly but since the fort is shared then any hero in the fort is also temporarily shared while in that fort. 

This allows you to put enhancements in Storehouse and characters in Goshen etc. and on their turn your teammate can take them out and keep control.
