King Manasseh (Di)
Special  Ability: May band to a  demon or magician, or you may discard 2 of your human Evil  Characters to return a Hero to  owner's hand.

1. Where can I discard evil characters from to satisfy Manasseh's last special ability?
1a) If my EC was set aside by Ambush the City, can I discard him? (I assume not due to "in play" default, but I wanted to check)
1b) Can I discard an EC from hand?

It defaults to in play and only in play.
