Does the capture still happen if there's no Temple artifact to take?

Yep, it does because you can pay the cost for something without getting the benefit (though I use that term loosely as everyone just uses the 'cost' of the ability ;))

If only this card said "Take a Temple Artifact to capture King Amazing", then you'd actually have to have your opponent have an active Temple Artifact out to capture him :D  Though you could still in that case take the arty (cost) without capture (benefit).  Just as a wishful hypothetical :)
