Does the purple King David satisfy several of the new cards and a couple old ones that say "...if David is in play..." or does it need to be the red or green David only?

If something says "David" on it you can use King David as well to satisfy the stipulation. If something says "King David" on it you can't use David for it.

King David is David.

However, David is NOT King David.

Make sense?

Yes he does. Because he is a future form of the red or green David.
