Yes, because King David is the only one doing the ignoring.

CA is correct. King David's ability is no longer active in the discard pile.

That's not actually the reason why. If a card gets discarded, it's ability remains active until the end of the phase. The reason evil royalty can then enter battle is because King David is the only one ignoring them. If he's no longer in battle, then nobody in battle is doing any ignoring, which allows evil royalty to enter battle.

HHI isn't in battle, but it stops characters from entering battle.

I disagree with Chronic. If the ability was not negated, its still functioning. Only King David gains the benefits of Ignore specific to ignoring characters, but the protection of the battlefield is still active even if David is Discarded.

In regards to HHI and making it into a similar situation as the OP...  If HHI is discarded but not negated midbattle, does it continue to ignore?  If so, then King David should too.

But isn't KD the only character doing the ignoring? I think if he's out of battle, he's no longer able to Ignore, even though his ability isn't technically negated. I do see your point, jmhartz, about HHI. Pol, how confident are you in your opinion?

100% The SA was never negated, therefore the battlefield continues to be protected.

I've had this question come up before in a casual game, and this is what I thought.  I guess I can see the other side, but I still think only King David is ignoring.

True if David was banded in so there was already royalty blocking, then it's no longer an auto win since David is not there to gain the benefits of ignoring them. But Ignore targets the battle as a whole so new royalty is stopped from entering on the blocking side unless David is negated.
Just one more thing...

Just want to throw out there that this is the fourth legitimate debate about what Ignore does in the past month.  At this point, I hope that the Elders are working on either a complete revamp of Ignore or a more concise description of what it does.

On this issue, I am on the side that evil royalty are no longer ignored once King David leaves battle because of the wording on his card.  However, I agree that the wording of Ignore itself may not actually support this idea.

I'm not as sure about this as I was before jmhartz's comparison to Household Idols, however, I'm sticking by my opinion for the moment, and will try to find relevant examples that might set a precedent. I'm curious to hear how many people have played this one way or the other, so if you all don't mind, would anyone reading this +1 this post if they've played it that King David doesn't ignore if discarded, and -1 it if they've played that he does?

Hey,

This came up in the past.  It was about Reuben's Torn Clothes with a genesis hero in territory and attacking with a non-TGT hero with TGT and a TGT hero in territory.  The official ruling was the characters cannot ignore from territory/outside of battle, but artifacts/non-characters can.  So if King David is discarded Royalty can enter battle and block normally.

Tschow,

I like Sir Nobody's explanation.
They seem pretty lame as fighters maybe we should challenge them to a dance off or a redemption game

I wasn't aware there was a bottom-up ruling for Ignore abilities. What I said would have been true otherwise.
