Cards that are played cannot retroactively gain cbn correct? So can Joy make CoL "more" cbn then it already is?

Yes.

Quote from: REG>Glossary>Play
A card is considered “played” if it meets these criteria:
You play a character or multicolor site by putting it in your territory or your side of the battle.

CoL will not gain the benefit from Joy until CoL is "played" from territory into battle.

To preemptively reply to the inevitable question of why CoL reactivates when moving from territory to battle and placed enhancements do not, territory class abilities are specifically only active while the card is in territory. When CoL leaves territory and enters battle, there is an instant where the ability deactivates completely (since it's no longer in territory) and reactivates as a character entering battle. This is also the reason why even if Moses is active and negating a Punisher Lost Soul and attacks, the Punisher ends up negating him when he enters battle (assuming there were enough brigades in play for it).

Except you don't play abilities you activate them like Guardian was saying recently. Correct? Is there a possibility that the "retroactive rule" will be changed to Guardians suggestion in the future? Jw, thanks for the answer you gave now
I realized yesterday what (I think) the issue is, which I believe may need to be corrected.

Quote
An ability cannot gain cannot be I/P/N retroactively; it has cannot be I/P/N when played or not at all.

I believe that needs to say "activated," not "played" --abilities are activated, not played, so those lines in the entries are simply worded incorrectly and thus causing the confusion.

I knew you were baiting us into a 4th thread on this subject when you posted but decided to answer your question anyway. There's really nothing left to discuss that hasn't been discussed already. I stand by the original answer.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

I actually thought that CoL would be played in territory because it was territory class and activate its ability in territory, so that's why I started the thread initially. And the REG you posted help me clear that up.

It is played in territory. It happens to also be played when it enters battle.

So If you put Joy on CoL it is still negatable by non-good cards before she enters battle for the first time?

Fwiw it did not occur to me that joy would only make characters cbn once they enter battle with it

Pretty sure a lot of people have thought it immediately made that character cbn

So then Coliseum negates children of light and then tosses Joy?

Joy isn't played in battle and thus doesn't get tossed. CoL has the CBN modifier from Joy the instant it activates so Coliseum doesn't get a chance to negate it.
