Job Overcomes

If I play Job Overcomes and my opponent has Self in play, does my opponent have to discard 7 cards since Self represents all 7 brigades?

Also, under what circumstances does my opponent get a chance to immediately negate the card's effect?  Since it doesn't specifically target the evil character in battle, I'm a little confused.  (I'll post an example scenario if you don't understand my meaning.)

Job Overcomes - 2/3 Blue HE
For each evil brigade your opponent has in play, that opponent must discard an evil card from hand or battle. You may draw a card.

Self - */* Multicolor EC
Abilities (*/*) match the abilities of one of opponent’s Heroes in play. If that Hero leaves the field of play, abilities become 0/0.
Epic pouting maneuver!

Yes it counts as 7, and I believe that they'd only be able to negate if say, they had 7 cards in their hand and one was a negate (since JO says both hand AND battle, meaning they could discard 6 from hand, 1 EC, then negate with the last enhancement) Otherwise, the negate itself is being discarded and cannot be used. Believe me, I've tried to make that card viable, but in order to do so... they need to have full control over Self. CTB and picking self doesn't work.

There is a way to "give" them self, but its pretty tricky to do right.

That's a tricky one. What I would say is that since your opponent gets to choose which cards he discards, if he chooses to discard either all of his EC's in battle, or enough to get initiative by the numbers, then he could play any ItB, negate last, etc. on any character in battle or any character affected by JO.

However, if your opponent has Self in territory, a brown EC in battle, and 5 evil cards in hand (one of them Korah's Rebellion) he must discard all seven of those cards, and would be unable to use Korah's Rebellion.

Your opponent could also immediately negate it if playing it gave him initiative by the numbers (i.e. you play JO, your opponent discards two guys in territory for his two evil brigades, and he now has initiative by the numbers. He can then play a negate last/ItB card and get his two guys back).

Wouldn't, in this case, the opponent get a chance to negate it because he is being removed from the battle due to JO?

Can't do that. JO only says hand or battle, Not territory.

How when his negate is being discarded at the same time?

True that. Pretend I said hand.
