Is Simon the Magician a greek?

I cannot find any resource that can confirm this for me.  I have also heard he was Samaritan.  What is the Redemption definition of being a Greek?  Born in Greece? Lived in Greece?

I believe he is a Samaritan. Redemption definition of Greek is I think being born in Greece or having something to show they are Greek. Same as how Paul who is a Roman citizen is thus Roman.

Born to a Greek family. David is not Philistine, even though he lived there for some time.

He is a Samaritan. And a Magician. Double shiny artifact fun.

I was born to an American family. That makes me American. I am not sure what is more Greek than being born to Greeks.

So, if he was born to a Greek family, shouldn't he be Greek?

You can also be a part of a nationality by culture and citizenship (like Paul). Any character in the Bible with a Greek name making idols to Greek Gods I'd say is Greek, anyone living in Asia Minor that's not a Jew, etc.

Yes, I was hoping he was a greek too.

You can also be a part of a nationality by culture and citizenship (like Paul). Any character in the Bible with a Greek name making idols to Greek Gods I'd say is Greek, anyone living in Asia Minor that's not a Jew, etc.

So you would consider Simon the Magician a greek?

But he meets part of the criteria in your statement:

You can also be a part of a nationality by culture and citizenship (like Paul). Any character in the Bible with a Greek name making idols to Greek Gods I'd say is Greek, anyone living in Asia Minor that's not a Jew, etc.

Emphasis mine.  He lived in Asia Minor and was not a Jew.  Perhaps I misunderstood your original statement, or I am missing facts about Simon.  Otherwise he would be greek by your definition.

Citation for not a Jew and living in Asia Minor? The only time he's mentioned in the Bible he's in Samaria, which was in Judea, not Asia Minor.

He's not Greek but he is a Samaritan, magician and a heretic.

I thought Samaria was part of Asia Minor and having difficulty even locating any source that defines the exact boundries of asia minor.   Also I thought you were refering to his nationality, culture and citizenship, not his bloodline.  He didn't seem to be practing Judaism culturally because he was a sorceror.  Saul/Paul was a Jew by bloodline, Jewish in his culture, but Roman in citizenship and we consider him a Roman in addition to a Jew.  Wouldn't Simon be something in addition to being a Samaritan?  Wasn't he also a citizen of the Roman empire?  I guess I am trying to determine why some characters get cultural identifiers but not others.

There's no textual reason to believe he was a Roman citizen or that he was doing anything particularly Greek.

So I am wrong, I can live with that.  But could we at least agree that there are characters in the game missing identifiers?

That's totally possible.  Identifiers get added to characters from time to time.  If you believe you've found a character missing an identifier please let us know which character and the passage from the Bible that you feel proves your point.  Sometimes sources outside the Bible are accepted but it's much rarer so don't count on that.

Cool. I will look over some, might lead to some more fun gameplay.  :)

And wouldn't all magicians be heretics, claiming they are God and Jesus wasn't?

"Backslider" is a term made up by the modern church. Simon was only ever interested in power.
