In Genesis 15:18-21, God makes a covenant with Abram promising his descendants Canaan and lists the groups who lived there at the time. I would guess that anyone belonging to these groups would probably be considered a Canaanite, as the kings from the previous chapter are often considered (and the one that was made into a card is) Canaanite. So what bearing does this have on the title?

If we count the list in Genesis 15 as Canaanites, then Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, should be considered a Canaanite, as his father hails from the Kenizzites, who are found in Genesis 15:19.

the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim 21 and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.”

Based on the entry in ORDIR, Canaanites are from the tribes/clans descended from Canaan, not necessarily tribes/clans that lived in Canaan. ORDIR uses Genesis 10:15-19 to as a basis for those clans.

But Caleb would be a Canaanite descendant if his father was a Kenizzite.

These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions:

Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied.

This is the family line of Esau, the father of the Edomites.

Poole and Eerdman seem to think that's the same Kenaz, which would make Caleb an Edomite (giving Esau a fifth target)!
