You can never interrupt the battle against another interrupt the battle card right?

All abilities must finish before anothe card may be played, so your opponent play an ITB play next card. You then must wait for them to finish all parts of that ability before you may play a card.

It's also why you can't play a Dom on a character in between abilities on characters. Lets say opponent blocks with gomer, you must wait to see if your opponent elects to band with her before you could play Angel of The Lord.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Agreed, and there is no reason you cannot interrupt ITB once it completes.  You can play Striking Herod after Joseph in Prison completes, or vice versa, so long as you have the initiative (or special initiative) to do so.  ITB still interrupts the last enhancement if your opponent used it, even if it is an ITB.
