Immune/Protect

This is the general description from the REG for immune/protect:
"Immune and protect abilities keep the target from being affected by the strength on cards to which it is immune or protected, keep the target from being able to be targeted by cards to which it is immune or protected, and also allow it to be unaffected by game rules which would normally affect it. "

A character can't be protected from game rules anymore right?

The REG says it can. Can you give me an example of why you think that's not accurate?

I may be confused but what is the difference here then

"We've removed the following sentence from the Immune/Protect entry in the REG:

Quote
Game rules do not apply to a card that is immune to or protected from the effect of the game rule.

The impact of this change is that cards which are "protected from discard" can now be discarded by decrease or by the numbers in battle. "Protection from discard" means "protect from discard abilities".

The following list of cards are impacted by this change:

Assyrian Camp - will no longer protect from discard by decrease.
Headquarters at Riblah - will no longer protect from discard by decrease.
High Priests Palace - will no longer protect from discard by decrease.
House of Rimmon - will no longer protect from discard by decrease.
Pharaoh's Throne Room - will no longer protect from discard by decrease.
Joseph (FF & CoW) - will not protect from discard by decrease or by the numbers during battle.
Job - will no longer protect from discard by decrease or discard by the numbers during battle.
Simeon (Di) - will not protect from discard by decrease or by the numbers during battle.
Uriah the Hittite - characters in territory will be discarded by game rule if decreased.
Gabriel (Di) - will not protect from discard by decrease or by the numbers during battle.
Angel of Deliverance (EC) - will not protect from discard by decrease or by the numbers during battle.
Angelic Visitor (EC) - will not protect from discard by decrease or by the numbers during battle.
Stoic Philosophers - will no longer protect from discard by decrease."

You're comparing general immunities to specific immunities. Assyrian Survivor is protected from discard abilities but he can be discarded by the numbers (game rule). However, Prince of this World is immune to lone heroes, so that lone hero's numbers cannot harm PotW, unless, of course, the immunity is negated.

The change you cite can be summed up as "protection from discard means protection from discard special abilities".

I don't recall off hand if what you quoted was left in there for a reason. I haven't come up with a situation where it will apply.

So wait, like Joseph is only protected from discard abilities now?  Does this also apply to characters like AUTO+Gideon and FW?  are they just protected from opponent's abilities? Doesn't dying by the numbers in battle count as dying via game rule rather than ability?

If you're referring to CoW Joseph then he protects OTHER sons of Jacob from discard abilities, not himself. When AUTO protects Gideon it is a complete CBN protection (abilities, numbers, dominants) from opppntents cards. The same for FW. The strength of characters hurts/harms the opposing character so when a character is immune/protected in general then the strength of the opposing character cannot affect the immune character. However, if the opposing character's toughness is strong enough to withstand the protected character, and there's nothing the immune character can do then the battle would end in a stalemate as the immune character isn't strong enough to beat the opposing character, but the opposing character cannot harm the immune character.

Are "immune" and "protect" considered the exact same thing now? Like how "interrupt and prevent" = "negate."

So, for example, would an ability that's "regardless of protection" also be regardless of immunity? Would a card that negates immune abilities also negate protect abilities?
