Uzzah's ability is to d/c to protect.  Would an ITB interrupt the d/c ability too, or just the protect ability?  The self d/c is instant, but the protection ongoing.

A cost/benefit ability functions as a single ability.  That's why if the "discard all cards in battle" part of Zimri is interrupted the crimson enhancement is returned to hand.  Uzzah is also a cost/benefit ability.  So when the "protect all lost souls from rescue" is interrupted the discarded Uzzah and artifact return to where they came from.

So Helmet of Brass (to gain initiative) followed by Words of Encouragement (to interrupt Uzzah and bring him back into play) followed by Cymbals of the Levites (to negate Uzzah) would work.

Until the issue the errata the is rumored to be coming, Split Altar only shuffles active Artifacts. 

I use it in my deck and every time i use it, it shuffles artifact piles and active artifacts

Even if you have a guy in with Helmet or Brass, don't you still not get the chance to play an enh?  Once Uzzah's ability is complete, the battle is effectively over.  There is no EC in battle anymore so you wouldn't get a chance to even play that ITB, right?
