Does choose the blocker/rescuer withdraw the blocker/rescuer?

At this time, I don't believe it's treated as a withdraw ability.  It's a bit closer to an exchange ability.  To the best of my knowledge, the only abilities that count as withdrawal are "withdraw" and "return to territory [from battle]".

I agree with Schaef.

What about "return to hand" or "return to deck" abilities?

Shuffle into deck is definitely not.  Shuffle into hand is a gray area, but I believe the current rule is no, and I am about 80% sure it will not be changed.

Return to hand seems in the current REG to be a "withdraw" ability since cards like Cage are in the "Withdraw from Battle cards" section.

Another curious discovery, after asking whether this was the case and not getting a solid opinion from people.  Good.  Some of my defenses just got a lot better.
