ok so I have I am Patience active and begin a rescue attempt in type 2 and choose the lost soul i'm going after. My opponent plays burial or Son of God on said lost soul then chooses not to block. Can I convert an evil character?(the same situation could happen in type 1 if my opponent only had 1 lost soul) So the real question I'm asking is if a battle starts as a rescue attempt but becomes a battle challenge before any evil character is in battle is it considered a failed rescue attempt?
I Am Patience (AW)
Type: Covenant • Brigade: Green • Ability: 2 / 5 • Class: None • Special Ability: At the end of your turn, if your rescue attempt failed you may convert one human Evil Character (except warrior class) to a green brigade Hero. • Identifiers: None • Verse: II Peter 3:9 • Availability: Angel Wars booster packs (Common)

Yes. A rescue attempt fails anytime one is begun, and an LS isn't rescued.
-
btw I am Patience + Rhoda is awesome.

So technically then, if I CM'ed your hero after you Angel'd my EC, you can still convert another human into a green hero? Why? I am not understanding why a rescue attempt changed to a battle challenge is considered a failed rescue. I would think failed is the sense of the hero losing the EC, being removed, captured, etc, NOT that the lost soul was rescued...

The main goal of a rescue attempt is to rescue a Lost Soul. This means that the success or failure of a rescue attempt depends on whether the LS was rescued. If it is, then the RA is successful. If not, the RA fails.

So just to clarify, if I come out with:
Ahimaaz (Pi)
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Teal • Ability: 4 / 2 • Class: Warrior • Special Ability: Protect this Hero from capture. You may look at one opponent’s hand or cards face down in a Site. You may then withdraw Hero from battle unharmed. • Play As: Protect this Hero from capture. You may look at one opponent’s hand or cards face down in a Site. You may withdraw Hero.
and choose to withdraw, it is still considered a failed attempt?

Yes that combo used to be somewhat popular but with all the territory protection nowadays few people are willing to use up a turn for it.
-
but if they don't have a ls in their territory then it is not nesisarily a waist of time

But it's also not a rescue attempt.
