King Ahaz
s/a Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Brown • Ability: 7 / 7 • Class: Warrior • Special Ability: Search deck for High Places. Brown Evil Characters may use O.T. evil Enhancements regardless of brigade. Cannot be negated. • Attributes: King of Judah, Fought Earthly Battle • Identifiers: OT Male Human, King (Judah), Royalty, Fought Earthly Battle • Verse: II Kings 8:26 • Availability: Thesaurus ex Preteritus booster packs ()

Does this mean that once King Ahaz enters battle that all Brown evil characters gain for the rest of the game the ability to play O.T. Evil Enhancements or just while KA is in battle?

If one plays 2k horses on King Ahaz in battle can KA retain?

Ongoing abilities, like the one on King Ahaz, only last until the end of the phase (end of battle in this case).

Straighten me out if I am wrong, but what good is the wording 'Brown Evil Characters may use O.T. evil Enhancements regardless of brigade.' What play am I missing?

If he is banded (say by Gomer) into battle, and your opponent discards him from battle, Gomer could still use any off brigade enhancements.

Or when I play Grapes of Wrath to discard him and I block your 2nd rescue attempt my brown EC can play any color.  Or after you AotL him and I add another brown EC to battle with Unknown Nation...

... you get the point. ::)

This made me think of an interesting question... if a battle were FBTN and I graped an evil card, would the next RA still be FBTN? Same queston applies to pretty much every ongoing ability.

Actually, this quote from the REG, if it's accurate, seems to suggest that Gabe is wrong about Grapes/Ahaz.

Quote
Playing a Negate All Hero on the second rescue attempt does not negate The Long Day on the first rescue attempt. The failed rescue attempt is resolved, so the second rescue attempt is not effected by the first rescue attempt (e.g., play by the numbers).  The second rescue attempt is treated as a second Battle Phase, not an additional battle.

This says that a second RA from The Long Day is part of a second phase. I don't see why it would be any different for Grapes. Obviously then ongoing abilities from the first battle, unless they said until end of turn, would have expired.

And going by this, the answer to Lambo's question would be "no".

Prof is correct.  A brand new battle = a new phase.

A continuation of a battle (Unknown Nation) continues the same phase.
