Title: Hunger ect.
Post by: Isildur on March 06, 2011, 10:51:00 PM
I would like to make a petition to get a rule changed.

A few days ago I learned that the second line of both Hunger and Ignorance text is not really an ability but it is a "reminder" for players. I would like to petition for these cards to be played as written instead of being lame and giving your opponent inish. Just throwing this out there to see if there are any other players who feel as I do.

Also note that I am looking at this from the perspective of having played other games where all cards are played as written except when a card is broken or is doing something that was op'd and not intended.

Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Black • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: All Heroes of one opponent decrease 6/6 for remainder of turn. If result is */0 or less, discard Hero. • Play As: All Heroes of one opponent decrease 6/6 for remainder of turn.

I agree that it's completely unintuitive to play them as anything but a decrease + discard.  But you'll need to convince more than just me. ;)

I say we get rid of the second line rule thingy all together. And let POTW be overpowered.

But if you noted what I said

I agree with everything said so far. Prince and Nero would not be that much more powerful if their "clarifying text" was actually an ability (and the PG prince is underused as is), especially with so many ways to negate character abilities nowadays. And certainly neither Hunger nor Ignorance would be OP with an instantaneous discard ability. Why over-complicate rules when you can just make cards do what they say? I would understand if the cards were OP, but they really are not. Please...elders...please...make sense...

Other card games also have set rotation.

I agree.  Hunger should be a battle winner since it clearly states that it intends to override the normal game rules.  we have other cards that override game rules (high priest palace?) and they work as they were intended.   I think Hunger should get an upgrade.  it kills two birds with one stone.  makes the card game more intuitive and improves the status of Hunger.  I guarrantee it would see much more playing time

I agree as well

Suggestion: change the subject line to something that might actually draw attention to your petition, not just "ok really?"

I'm definitely willing to discuss it and it sounds like Gabe would as well.

I'd be for discussing that too. But it would require a lot of time and effort to check out all of the cards that would be affected, so don't expect a big rule change overnight.

I would also suggest looking at cards like Golden Censer, if the rules about clarifying text is over turned that might be useful as well.

Yes. If we can make more sense and bring older cards back into the picture at the same time, that's about the best success there is in this game.

On a rather off-topic note, I think we should have a whole set devoted to making older cards usable...but let's solve this issue for now.

Actually it was looking at this card that started the whole road to the rule about 2nd sentences being clarifying on the old sets.  Last time I was the one arguing for allowing this card to play as written, and I got shot to pieces.  If Prof A, Gabe, and Guardian are all in favor of discussing it again at this point, I just wish they had chimed in to help me before.  I gave up because I thought I was alone. :(

The rest of us will just have to keep watching the trade threads until the final decision is announced. If the Elders suddenly start trading for PotW (Wa), Golden Censer, Plague of Flies and Hunger, then we'll know they have reached a verdict.

 :miss:

Sorry, Mark.  I must have completely missed that part of the discussion.  I recall you providing the insight that the second sentence of old cards is clarifying text from that discussion.  I don't remember Hunger being brought up.

There are plenty of other things that need our attention right now and are probably more important than this discussion though.  Like finishing the new REG and making sure the new set is amazing but not OP. :)
