Title: How new SI rules affect ANB and Herods
Post by: Redoubter on February 24, 2013, 11:51:03 AM
Alright, first I know that bringing up how ANB works is a sore subject, so I apologize for that ;)

First, I just want to make sure that the ruling that ANB is inherently CBI (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/ruling-questions/rule-changeclarification-negates/msg484928/#msg484928) stands with the new SI rules.  As it removes all characters from the battle, it creates a losing condition.  However, in order for it to complete, the ability sends the game to a new phase.  Is the ruling still going to be that it nothing can stop it after it is played through de facto CBI?

Second, this brings up the question about Herods:

Herod Agrippa II   6/6   Acts 25:23   Gold   E   Negate protect abilities on Fortresses.  If a Hero withdraws from battle, you may capture it.  May band to a Sadducee.  Cannot be negated. [Jewish King]   War

Herod's Treachery   -   Matthew 2:8   Multi   EE   Place on a Herod.  That Herod may use evil Enhancements regardless of brigade.  You may discard this card to force X Heroes to withdraw from battle. [X=number of good brigades opponent has in play, territory class] N

If an ability returns all heroes to territory while Agrippa II is out (this is one example, there are others), then in order for it to finish AII will capture them (because they withdrew).  This capture is CBN.  Is the rescuing player able to interrupt/negate the source of withdrawal, or are they just plain captured?

Not at all!  You have my full attention.  ;)

Regardless (like how I did that?  ;D ) of the new SI rules it's my contention that any ability that causes a phase change is inherently CBI.

And CBN sticks...no matter what direct or indirect negate is played.

(BTW, CBP is MY sore subject.  ::) )

1) ANB moves to the rescuing player to his draw phase. At this point there are no characters in battle to play a negate on so there is no way for ANB to be negated. Your're right.

2) Yes the heroes are captured and your opponent cannot play a negate on the withdrawal because after abilities complete the hero(s) are in their opponent's land of bondage.

I agree with Redoubter on this one...If the hero withdraws, capture it. The Hero doesnt withdraw unless Herods Treachery is not negated...is this correct?
