In a ROOT game I played tonight I had a lot of things come up that I did not know how to handle. Please help.

1. I saw he had fire foxes and hoped I could bait him into blocking with it. So I RA and draw two with AUTO and switched for Gideon...he blocked Fire foxes "...If opponent used a special ability to draw, exchange, or search this turn, protect lost souls from opponent..."

I'm 2/2 with Gideon he is 2/2 with Firefoxes...Whose initiative is it?

He said because he was protected his 2 strength didn't count, so it was his initiative. I didn't think so, but didn't know for sure so I conceded. He plays head of Gold "x/0 (x is the number of Babylonians) immune to silver. Capture up to X humans"...with 3 Babylonians in play doesn't capture Gideon but captures other heroes of mine and then dies claiming he never passed initiative. Is this correct?

2. I have 8 cards in my hand. I have throne and attack with David. He has foreign wives...I draw off of that, but he says the Lost Souls I draw count as a package deal, so I don't get to replace the lost souls I drew with other cards...so because I had drawn like 3 lost souls, I only ended up with 14 cards in my hand...

Do lost souls work that way with the hand limit, or are they replaced with other cards even when drawn in that way?

3. After I use Holy Grail twice does it automatically get discarded? Or can I leave it there active, but useless?

1. Here is the relevant section of the REG: "When comparing the strength of one character to the toughness of a second character that is immune to or protected
from the first character, the strength of the first character is treated as zero."

2. The only time something like this came up I remember I was just clarifying you stop drawing from the ability itself once you reach the hand limit (Souls still in hand) and then replace the souls as opposed to drawing from the ability until you had 16 non-soul cards in your hand, then putting the souls down and not replacing them because the limit was reached. No matter which way it was done you should have ended with 16 cards in hand. The only time this matters is something like the lawless soul which I don't recall happening. I'm complete wrong on this one.

3. I know it is discarded because I recall asking the same question recently and it was ruled that limited use artifacts discard themselves but I would love to see where this rule is written as I cannot find it in the REG.

1. Because Gideon is protected from opponents, Fire Foxes is not defeating Gideon and is being defeated so therefore Fire Foxes has initiative. Because Head of Gold does not increase Fire Foxes toughness, they continue to be defeated (as opposed to the battle moving to a stalemate situation).

2. Lost Souls are never actually considered part of your hand. They go immediately from deck to play when drawn therefore they have nothing to do with hand limit. With 8 cards in hand to start, you should have been at 15 cards as a result of Foreign Wives being in play.

3. Artifacts with a limit usage are discarded once the effect of their last use has completed so when you use the second convert of Holy Grail, it goes to the discard pile.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Is there any documentation on limited artifacts being discarded? This is an issue I see come up a lot and I would love to know of a place to point to instead of having to dig for a ruling questions thread each time.
