Hope against heretics

The Silver Trumpets (Pi)
Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: When your Priest has initiative during a rescue attempt, you may band a human O.T. Hero from your territory into battle or interrupt the battle and return your Heroes in battle to hand. May be used twice. • Play As: When your Priest has initiative during a rescue attempt, you may band a human O.T. Hero from your territory or interrupt the battle, withdraw your Heroes, and return them to hand. May be used twice. • Identifiers: OT, Tabernacle Item, Temple Item • Verse: Numbers 10:2 • Availability: Priests booster packs (Rare)

If I band in a FBTN hero with TST, will it negate CD's protection?  (CD can't be negated by a character, but it's an artifact that's doing the interrupting.  He's then negated before the CBN can resume)

Unfortunately no, as the Banding portion of Silver Trumpets doesn't include an interrupt. If it did then yes this should work.

Ah.  I *may* have been playing this wrong.  If I've got special init due to removal, then I can't use TST to band in a FBTN hero, to negate whatever's causing me to lose?

Correct - The only thing special initiative allows you to do is play an actual Interrupt card - Since Silver Trumpets is technically not one (Even though you could use it in a manner that would interrupt the removal) You can't use it. Now, hypothetically you could play an interrupt, then Meal in Emmaus to activate and use Trumpets, but that still wouldn't help you against CD.

I agree that TST won't help against CD, however it will save your priest if you are being discarded/captured/whatever, right?  It allows you to interrupt the battle to send your hero back to your hand, which would be exactly what "special initiative" is for right?

I was hoping to grab a FBTN guy and then swing the battle heavily in my favor.

It has never be ruled to be able to be used during special initative. The ruling as is states that you can only use the ability during regular initiative.

Special initiative is still initiative. It has always been ruled that way.

Bringing a FBTN hero into battle via Trumpets to negate a capture has been specifically ruled against.

I don't have a dog in this fight but would like to know why?

It is ruled not to work with special initiative because the adding to battle has no interrupt component. It's "interrupt and withdraw" or "add to battle," not "interrupt and withdraw" or "interrupt and add to battle." You can never use an ability that doesn't interrupt when you have special initiative via removal.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

I wasn't trying to argue against that, I was trying to say that you can interrupt and withdraw.  Alex said that it can never it can never be used in special intiative situations, but I think we were talking about two different things.

Yep, it looks like we're indeed all on the same page after all.  Just to make everything totally clear.

You CAN interrupt a battle and remove your heroes to you hand with TST whether you are losing by the numbers or losing because of a discard/capture/etc.

You CANNOT interrupt and band in a FBN person to cancel being discarded/captured/etc. because the banding part of TST does NOT interrupt.
