Herod's temple and Medium in Endor

My opponent exchanges a character in battle with one in my discard using Medium in Endor. Can i use herod's temple to get it back? herod's temple says "Discarded by a special ability" which doesn't necessarily mean a discard ability does it?

Exchange to discard still doesn't mean the card you put there is discarded.

Since Exchange is not the character being Discarded, no, you cannot; they must be Discarded from play/set-aside in order to be "healable," and Exchange does not also include a Discard.

Like Heal includes a search, add to battle includes a band (sometimes), and activating an artifact via SA includes a search?
