Once per turn, if your lone green brigade prophet begins a battle, you may play an Enhancement or discard an evil Enhancement in an opponent's deck.
What is the definition of "begins a battle"? Does it refer only to the action of placing a hero in the field of battle, beginning a battle challenge/rescue attempt? Does playing an enhancement that would start a side battle (Sword of the Lord) constitute "beginning a battle"?

Hey,
I believe it has been ruled in the past that you can use Hidden Treasures in a side battle.

So, I could make a rescue attempt with a green prophet, play Sword of the Lord, then use Hidden Treasures' ability to play another enhancement? Does the enhancement activate immediately, or does the side battle resolve first? Can you play an enhancement by special ability on a hero when the blocker is in a separate battle?

The Hero that begins a battle is the one first introduced into that battle. You could do it with a side battle, but to trigger HT you would need to put a green prophet into that side battle. When you do that, the ability triggers.

So the act of initiating a side battle is not considered "beginning a battle"?
I has a great big sad :'(

Right. Hidden Treasures could have been worded "...At the beginning of battle, if you have a lone green brigade prophet in that battle, you may..." and it would be played the same.
