can i trigger herods dungeon multiple times during battle? for instance, can i capture once with herods dungeon, clear the site via burial or son of god, then trigger it again to capture another hero during the same battle?

Herod’s Dungeon
Type: Site • Brigade: White • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: While blocking with a Herod while this Site is unoccupied, you may capture a male human Hero with strength 7/* or greater and place it here. When you block with Herodias, you may discard a captured Hero. • Identifiers: Israel • Verse: Matthew 14:3 • Availability: Thesaurus ex Preteritus booster packs ()

Yes, 'While blocking' is ongoing phrasing. You can choose to manually trigger Herod's Dungeon as many times as the conditons are met.

This may have been answered somewhere before, but I can't seem to find it:

If you have an empty Herod's Dungeon and you block with Herod Antipas (blah blah. May band to Herodias.) and band to Herodias, can you capture because of Antipas and then immediately discard due to Herodias?

no, because herodias' trigger happens before herod antipas'.

If you block with Salome banded to a Herod though...

It does the opposite of what I asked about: it empties an occupied Herod's Dungeon with Salome, then you can fill HD again since a Herod is in battle after the band.

ah, thats what i was missing. :) so, its pretty much the same effect of herodias banded to herod antipas, right? or do you get to choose the order in which the abilities resolve? meaning, you could block with salome banded to a herod (with the dungeon empty), capture with the dungeon, then discard with salome? or must you wait until the next turn to do that?

Banding always triggers last, so Salome's discard would trigger first. If you don't use it then, you can't that battle.

Not quite. Herod is the one doing the banding, which is different in a number of respects, the most important here being who entered battle first.

herod antipas -> herodias + empty dungeon: capture hero
herod antipas -> herodias + occupied dungeon: discard captured hero, capture hero
salome -> herod + empty dungeon: capture hero
salome -> herod + occupied dungeon: discard captured hero, capture hero

its the exact same.

yeah, its apparantly an ongoing trigger, so as long as you can satisfy the trigger, it works.

no, because herodias' trigger happens before herod antipas'.
Wait what?
herod antipas -> herodias + empty dungeon: capture hero
herod antipas -> herodias + occupied dungeon: discard captured hero, capture hero
salome -> herod + empty dungeon: capture hero
salome -> herod + occupied dungeon: discard captured hero, capture hero
its the exact same.
Is it because of "when blocked?" Rather than "While blocking"?

Hey,

Bump, has there been an official ruling on this?

I don't post on every thread, but I do try to read every thread.  If there are conflicting answers, incorrect answers, or no clear answer, then I will chime in and try to straighten things out.  But if a big name player gives a correct answer (particularly if it includes a good explanation like the one RDT gave) and no one disagrees with them then I am not going to reply just to say that I agree.

Historically we have made a lot of "official" card combination rulings but we are trying to move away from that approach to resolving conflict.  Ultimately the judge at any given tournament makes the "official ruling" based on their understanding of the rules.  The goal of this message board is to help judges and players across the country learn to interpret the rules the same way so that judges across the country are all ruling the same way and so that players will not be surprised by the rulings judges make at tournaments.

Tschow,

Tim "Sir Nobody" Maly

Moving away from official rulings sounds like a trainwreck when you apply it to new cards. Not making an official ruling on Elishananana+Gathering makes sense because they've been around for a while, but when the question relates to the newest set, and especially an unprecedented ability like this one, official rulings are really the only way to get cohesive rulings out of the judges.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
