Title: Herods and Denarius
Post by: Arrthoa on June 09, 2012, 01:09:47 PM
Since it was ruled that Herods are considered Romans, can they use Denarius to draw 1?
The reason being is they acted as governors so I was just curious

Denarius (Di)
Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: On activation, each player with more than 6 cards in hand must discard a card from hand. If you have a Roman governor or emperor in play, draw 1. • Play As: On activation, each player with more than 6 cards in hand must discard a card from hand. If you have a Roman governor or Roman emperor in play, draw 1. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Mark 12:15-17 • Availability: Disciples booster packs ()

I don't think they are considered governors, but they are considered Kings, mainly Herod the Great and Archealus are.

All Herods are royalty, and apparently Roman (though I didn't know that; makes sense, though). Some Herods (like mega mentioned) are Kings. Herods Phillip II and Antipas are Governors (so Denarius would work with them assuming you are right about them being Roman). Herod Agrippa II is a King of Judah, so Gates of Jerusalem would affect him.

The are roman, this is the thread where it was originally ruled

Ah yes, I remember that thread now.

So to answer the original question, if you have Denarius and either Herod Antipas or Herod Phillip II you can draw 1.

Herods Phillip II and Antipas are Governors

I don't see where this is in the REG, has this been ruled on? If so I'm not familiar with it. Not saying it's wrong, but I am curious.

Herod Agrippa II is a King of Judah, so Gates of Jerusalem would affect him.

This is odd too. I see it's in the REG, but I know for a fact that he shouldn't be, since Kings of Judah is supposed to be restricted to Kings between Rehoboam and Zedekiah up to the Babylonian conquest. The REG needs fixing (again). I doubt it would matter TOO much, since HAII is already CBN and there are better ways to protect him in territory, but it should be changed to be consistent.

In the thread I linked, the issue was never resolved, and I don't recall any threads coming after it that resolved the issue.

I'm sure I and the other elders would be open to the possibility of allowing some of the Herods to be governors if we were presented with a good, provable argument, but for now I haven't seen any.

I'm going off the identifiers they have listed in the REG for each of those cards. Though, if Agrippa 2 is not actually a KoJ then perhaps these governor ones could be wrong as well.

Herod Antipas (Ap)
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Gold • Ability: 7 / 5 • Class: None • Special Ability: Discard John the Baptist. May band to Herodias. • Identifiers: NT Male Human, Governor (Jew), Royalty • Verse: Luke 3:19-20

Herod Philip II (Di)
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Gold • Ability: 7 / 9 • Class: Warrior • Special Ability: If another Herod is in play, return a Hero with strength greater than X to territory. You may place this card beneath deck to add a Herod to battle. • Play As: If another Herod is in play, return a Hero with strength greater than X to territory. You may place this card beneath deck to add to battle a Herod. • Identifiers: NT Male Human, Governor (Jew), Royalty • Verse: Luke 3:1

Why don't they mention Roman in their Identifiers?

Obligatory REG needs updating post.

Interesting, I wonder why those identifiers were added. I would tentatively say that you could use Denarius with them then, but I still question why HAII is listed as a King of Judah. Hopefully another Elder can help figure that out.
