Does  herod the great (Ap) kick heroes out of battle if they are banded, can you present a new hero?

I am pretty sure you can only present a new Character if a special ability gives you that option.

It's helpful to post the abilities of cards when inquiring about them.

Herod the Great (Ap)
No Heroes may band this turn. Any already banded must return to their territories.

Herod kicks out banded heroes but the original, first hero would remain in battle. You would not get to present any new heroes.

If the first hero stays in battle, herod isn't near as powerful as I thought!

98% of the time of you look at an old card and think, why does no one use this? It is so good. You should probably assume your not interpreting it correctly. I've found only a few exceptions to this rule. Fearfulness (the gray one) and besiege the city are the exceptions I've found for myself this far.

To tag off of this. What if I played strife to withdraw the original hero. Then blocked with Herod the Great (ap)?

I believe that would work, yes. The banded Hero would of course get special initiative, but it's an interesting block that doesn't use enhancements.

Huh, I've seen it ruled at tournaments that Herod kicks ALL characters out. Ah well...

"Banded" heroes are heroes brought into a battle via a band ability. Herod withdraws banded heroes. The first hero in battle was put into battle via game rule (you start a battle by putting a hero into the field of battle) not via a band ability. Therefore, the first hero in battle is not a "banded hero" and Herod would not withdraw it. This version of Herod functions similarly to the Disciples version of Herod, albeit a bit less clearly.

Thanks, this is exactly what I needed.
