Title: Healing Q
Post by: Master Q on October 04, 2015, 08:28:08 PM
Say I have a hero loaded with AoG, and it gets discarded, but healed by Peter. The AoG doesn't stick with the hero, right? It all is discarded, yes?

no the placed cards follow the character being healed assuming they would only be discarded if the character was discarded and not healed instead

They will come back with the Healed character.  This was clarified pre-Nats 2015 (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/redemption-official-rules/new-ruling-on-heal-effective-immediately-(will-be-used-at-nats-2015)-36244/), and is codified in the REG 3.0.0 (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/downloads/REG_3.0.0.pdf).

When a character is discarded, if they are healed on that turn then they return in exactly the same state as they had been in prior to their discard, including their alignment, brigade(s), placed cards, etc., with only the parts that were healed being removed.

Is that a "do as much as you can" sort of thing? For example, if one of the AoG enhancements is removed from the discard pile before the heal happens (say it's removed from the game or returned to deck) would it get returned to play from that other location or would it stay put and the character would come back with one less enhancement?

That's a good question.  I don't believe that it can, because it is not negating or undoing any effects that would have removed those cards from the discard pile, and they would not be there to be returned.  I'd like to get confirmation from other Judges on that.

i agree if there is no negate for the ability removing the aog or placed enhancement after the character is healed those cards wouldn't come back as in the example where they are only being discarded then healed

Hero with an AoG gets discarded. Attacker then bands in Saint of Virtue and Christian Soldier to topdeck/search for the discarded AoG. Peter then heals original Hero that had AoG...cloned AoG!  8)
