Opponent rescues with Habakukk activated his ability, I present King Merodach-baladin as a blocker. Opponent passes initiative, does my opponent get to choose King-merodach baladan to discard or does he have to choose a character already in my territory?

Basically does Habakkuk's ability trigger at battle resolution or after the battle has completed?

The discard happens after battle resolution, so it won't affect the outcome of the battle. Your opponent can choose to discard any warrior class EC in play, so that includes King M-b.

Since I am the judge that most directly affects your coming weekend, it is worth noting that I agree with browarod. Characters are battling in battle. "After battle" means that the battle has ended, therefore no one is in battle battling.
My wife is a hottie.
