Title: Habakkuk
Post by: Lamborghini_diablo on November 20, 2010, 12:11:03 AM
Heres the sitch'iation.

Player A RA's with Habakkuk, Player B blocks with Emperor Augustus. Habakkuk dies by numbers.

Can Habakkuk still kill Emperor Augustus with his ability? It really boils down to when is "After battle"?

"Negate all protect abilities on evil cards.  After this battle, you may discard a warrior class Evil Character. Cannot be negated."

Yes. You may discard Augustus at the end of battle since Habakkuk's ability does not specifiy that you actually have to win the battle. However, no lost soul is rescued.

I know. My question is. When is "after the battle" triggered? During the battle phase, or after?

If you discard Holy of Holies during battle, its SA sticks around because it CBN, but it fizzles after the battle phase.

After the battle refers to the period following battle resolution.

this is wrong battle resolution happens during the battle phase after battle only means after both players have conceded playing enhancements and the battle enters the resolution step so the cbn ability is still valid the ec dies the hero dies and no ls is saved period

After some research I haven't found any conclusive evidence on either side of this. The best I can tell is that "after the battle" is the very last step in battle resolution, which is still in the battle phase.

there isn't any requirement, the ability wasn't negated, and you kill emporer A.

There is a cross-phase delayed trigger that wasn't Negated. Habbakuk kills the Emperor unless Chozarin is in play.

STNG's Commander Data could not have said it better himself.  ;)

You mean Caesarea Philippi, right?  That protects against discard?
