If I play Grapes Of Wrath on my EC did he win the battle?

nobody won. all cards were removed from the battle, there was no winner or loser and since it was grapes that did it the EC did not make a successful block or win anything

I'm inclined to agree with lp, though I am not an Elder. The hero definitely did not win, since he didn't win a soul or make a successful battle challenge. Likewise, the evil character did not make a successful block, since it got discarded, and it was not the card that got rid of the hero(es) in battle, thus, it did not win the battle either.

So DoU doesn't count as a successful block?

The character making a successful block and the player making a successful block are different. DoU played on Assyrian Survivor triggers AS' ability, which means that he was defeated, which means AS didn't make a successful block, even if the player did (barring a HT).
