GoS conditional to increasing and EC? + ignore question

Basically, Gates of Samaria, is triggered by putting Samaria site in play, but is it also conditional that on must have a King of Israel in play and increase them before one is able to decrease another player's character?

Card reads: "When you play a Samaria Site, increase your evil King of Israel 6/6 to decrease a character 6/6."

2. Part 3 of the ignore ability reads [from the REG]:

"characters not in battle and ignored cannot enter battle (i.e., you cannot choose to bring them into battle and they cannot be targeted by an ability that would bring them into battle)"

So, does that mean I can/cannot have a character that ignores a specific color, somehow make it so they can choose the next character they face, choose a character that they are ignoring, and simply win the rescue because my opponent cannot rescue with someone else and cannot enter battle? Do they just get to choose someone else?

3. And just to clarify, this goes for Wall of Protection too, right? If I choose the blocker, they cannot block and I automatically win a LS?

1. You cannot decrease a character with Gates of Samaria out without first increasing your own Israelite King.

2/3. No. In the case of ignore abilities and WoP, you cannot even target those characters for a CtB ability. You must target a character that can block.

I'm not 100% sure of what you're asking.

For 1) I believe you're asking if you have to increase a King in order to decrease someone. This is correct. If you don't have a valid target for the 6/6 increase, you don't get the benefit of the 6/6 decrease.

For 2) I believe you're asking if you can use a CTB card to select an ignored character. You cannot. The ignored character can't be brought into battle by any means including CTB.

For 3 I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. If the question is can your opponent present a blocker after you use a CTB ability the answer is 'No' if the question is can you use CTB through Wall of protection the answer is 'No' if the question is do youautomatically win a LS using CTB the answer is still 'no'

I'm not 100% sure of what you're asking.

I think Chronic Apathy answered my questions, but I'll clarify with specific examples:

2. I set aside
Miriam (CL)
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Green • Ability: 4 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: Hero ignores gold brigade. • Play As: Hero ignores evil gold brigade. • Identifiers: OT Female Human, Musician, Prophet • Verse: Exodus 15:21 • Availability: C Deck (L)

with Provisions (Ki)
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Green • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Set Hero aside for 2 turns. On return, holder may draw 2 cards and may choose the Evil Character his opponent's uses to block Hero's next rescue attempt. • Errata: Set aside Hero for 2 turns. On return, holder may draw 2 cards, and hero gains the ability (for Hero’s next rescue attempt only) “Holder may choose the Evil Character opponent uses to block” [choose opponent]. • Identifiers: OT, Connected with David • Verse: I Samuel 17:20 • Availability: Kings booster packs (Uncommon)

and choose MY gold EC in territory. Since Gold is ignored, it cannot enter battle. Is this: (a) end of battle--I win a LS, (b) my opponent gets to bring a different character in after I chose one that is ignored, or (c) not a legal CTB choice?   Do I have to choose a blocker my opponent CAN block with? If so, and they do not have a character I can choose, I win the LS right?

3. My opponent has
Wall of Protection
Type: Fortress • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Place this site in your territory. No character in your territory may be brought into battle by an opponent. • Play As: Protect characters in your territory from opponents' banding, choose (opponent), and side battle abilities. • Identifiers: Play to territory. • Verse: I Kings 9:15 • Availability: Apostles booster packs (Ultra Rare) in play.

I attack with
Ehud (Pa)
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Blue • Ability: 7 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: Ehud may choose a male, human Evil Character from opponent's territory to block. Wall of Protection has no effect. Hero has first strike ability. • Play As: Ehud may choose a male, human Evil Character from opponent’s territory to block [choose opponent]. Negate Wall of Protection this turn. Hero has first strike ability. • Identifiers: OT Male Human, Judge, Fought Earthly Battle • Verse: Judges 3:15 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs (Rare)

Which means I choose a male human EC blocker from my opponent's territory, but I cannot bring that character into battle because of Wall of Protection, so (a) I win a LS or (b) they can choose who they want to enter battle regardless of my CTB ability?

4. A similar situation is using
Death of Firstborn
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Silver • Ability: 2 / 2 • Class: None • Special Ability: Immunity on all characters is negated. Blocking Evil Character refuses to block. Opponent must present a new blocker or rescue attempt is successful. • Play As: Negate immunity on all characters for the remainder of battle. Return one blocking Evil Character to owner's territory. If this ability causes an Evil Character to leave battle, opponent may add to battle a new blocker. • Identifiers: OT, Based on Prophecy, Plague • Verse: Exodus 12:29 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs (Rare)

after my opponent who has Wall of Protection in play blocks, I play DoF and they have to bring another EC into battle. I once had it ruled that this was essentially choosing a blocker, so the defender lost and I won a LS. Is this correct, or does my opponent have the opportunity to present a new blocker even with Wall of Protection in play?

Thanks!

The answer is C - you must be able to choose a character your opponent can block with. Furthermore, if there is no legal character in play, then you cannot use Provisions' ability, and your opponent can block from hand, or use something like Unknown Nation. Also keep in mind that unless you win a battle by the numbers, your opponent has the opportunity to use Christian Martyr, any artifacts that might be able to remove you from the game, or any other cards they can legally play before they give up a Lost Soul. This includes after winning a battle via special ability.

This is a bad example, because Ehud specifically states that Wall of Protection has no effect, but I know what you mean, and my answer remains the same. If there is no legal target for a Choose the Blocker ability, your opponent may choose either from hand, Unknown Nation, Philly Outpost, etc.

In this case, Wall of Protection would prevent your opponent from bringing in a new defender, but only from territory. Your opponent could still bring in a new EC from hand, as per the Goliath ruling.

Well that is all somewhat disappointing, would be a great strategy, but thanks!

This is a bad example, because Ehud specifically states that Wall of Protection has no effect
yep, I knew that, woops
