I recently played a game in which my opponent made a battle challenge with a blue hero, placed one of his own evil enhancements from discard on Golgotha. When he returned to territory he played the blue territory class enhancement that allowed you to take an evil enhancement into your hand. (Don't remember the name.)

Golgotha (Di)

Type: Site • Brigade: White • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Anytime during battle, you may place a skull icon card from hand or discard pile on Golgotha: N.T. characters of that brigade cannot be ignored. Return that card to its previous location at end of turn.

Up to this point I have no problem. My question comes in here: Golgotha states to return the enhancement to previous location at end of turn. I was told that since the enhancement is now no longer in Golgotha, it stays in my opponent's hand. This WAS explained to me, but I still don't quite understand why. Can somebody offer some insight?

~~The enhancement was removed from Golgatha, so Golgatha doesn't have control of it anymore. It's reset in hand.~~

The card you're looking for is Abraham's Desendant.

The default for all SAs is "in play." Since the EE is no longer in play (it is in his hand), it can not be targetted by the Return ability.

I think this has confused me more. Cards have control of other cards?

I would not be confused about this if Golgotha said "Return contents to previous location at end of turn"

Here is why I AM confused: Return abilities are instant. Golgotha is worded "Return that card to it's previous location at end of turn".

The card was targeted with a return ability, triggered by the end of your turn, yes? Then why does it matter where it is?

I don't really have a problem with this working, I just would like to understand why.

Edit: Just saw your post MathTeacher. That kind of makes sense, but let me ask this, is there a place where I can find these default rules?

Got it, still can't find that default specifically, wish there was a better way to find these things. Thanks for the explanation, I'd rather someone explain the default than just tell me it defaults without explanation.

Ongoing Special Abilities > Miscellaneous > Default Conditions

• Unless specifically stated, all special abilities apply to the characters in play, not out of play.

That is why it is important that the quote says "all special abilities."

As to why it was put in that place in the REG, I think that spot became a gathering place for Default Rulings in general, which would explain why there are no entries for "Miscellaneous" in the "Instant Abilities" category.

Let me retort with this question..

Since it doesn't specify..would that not default to cards in play, therefore not really doing anything? Or does "cards with those titles" supersede that by being worded weirdly?

You are correct that "cards with those titles" are not protected while in your hand. Once you put on into play it is protected.

So if I play Mayhem directly after someone adds son of god to their hand, it gets shuffled? If so, my group may be playing this wrong..fail.

Yeah, it gets shuffled. Don't worry about playing it wrong, a year ago I though redeemed captured heroes returned to territory.

Now I'm a little confused on Golgotha... It states that you may place a skull icon card from hand or discard pile Golgotha. Then, it also specifies to return that card to its previous location AT END OF TURN. No where on Golgotha do I see the ability to remove the enhancement until the turn has ended.

If that is so, then would the end of turn be AFTER the current player's discard phase? If so, then you couldn't legally play a TC enhancement at that point in time.

Or, does END OF TURN = Discard phase? Because, I was taught that when you say, "I end my turn," you have finished your discard phase.

It doesn't return until end of turn. So after the battle is over, you play the TC enhancement Abraham's Descendant.

I getcha now that I sww AD's SA. I thought you guys were talking about a TC that searched your discard pile for an EE and returned it to hand. So, ignore my previous post then lol.
