Poll

Should there be a rule that says "You can't rescue a lost soul in your own Land of Bondage, except with Son of God."

Yes.  This is an acceptable compromise for this season.
No, I want New Jerusalem to be able to rescue from my own Land of Bondage, as it always has.
I like the the rule, but I don't want any exceptions.  I prefer to institute the rule "You can't rescue a Lost Soul in your own Land of Bondage." even before the new Son of God card is available.

That would never work in T1. All it would do is make 100% of decks Geneptians.

As for the SA on SoG, I am also for it (so long as it's "Negate and Rescue a Lost Soul" and not "Negate Lost Souls. Rescue a Lost Soul.") for non-gameplay reasons. On of the few sticking points I run into frequently in telling people about the game happens when they find out Jesus can't rescue some souls. Introducing this card will potentially add a significant amount of players, which is good for the game.
I agree. This would simplify the game and potentially make it more appealing.

people will probably be buying starter decks just for that card, and the resulting stampede will cause the gap between the rich and the poor to widen.
People buying starter decks is a good thing for the game.  And if the gap between rich and poor is just $10, then our country is in a lot better shape than I thought :)

And I disagree that this rule change will hurt defense.  I am a huge fan of defense, and I know that using SoG+NJ defensively against a speed deck happens a lot less often than them using SoG+NJ for the win.  And often they have to take their own LSs to do it.  Forcing them to wait for my LSs will give my defense more time to set up, and therefore will actually help defense.

I agree with you, except for the part where that's completely untrue. Genesis has one card that's essentially a guaranteed soul, and that's Cupbearer. There's also Joseph Before Pharaoh, but that's not as reliable. In the meantime, you have prophets with Hosea, which is pretty much guaranteed to generate a soul or two unless your opponent is using very little defense, you have Luke, which is excellent at generating souls. As it goes, Genesis is not top dog when it comes to soul generation, by a long shot.

And everyone plays with defenses these days.  ::)

This new version of Son of God still won't even be able to rescue any Lost Soul at any time; Heretics will still be able to protect Lost Souls from rescue by SoG. Does that make any more Biblical sense than the Lost Soul protecting itself from SoG? If people are in favor of a more powerful SoG for non-game-play reasons, why not just make SoG able to rescue any soul regardless of protection by game rule? Why make a new SoG which everyone will need because it's better than the old one? That would be power creep at its absolute worst. (Anticipating typical "Erratas are not meant to make cards more powerful" argument which never made sense to me and already accounts for at least one other useless card in this game.)

I hate the idea of new cards that make old cards obsolete. Why not make use of what already exists?

1. SoG and NJ are more effective defensively together then separate.  I can stop some one with 2 lost souls in my LoB
2. Think of the guys you are playing ageist if you are winning.  Losing 3 to 0 with no defensive SoG and NJ are a marcy then.  Or the revers I'm losing 3 to 0 I can at lest get 2.
3. They can be stopped in multiple ways

I like the fact that Redemption cares enough about our input, but I really think that putting this to a vote was a bad idea. Large and unpopular changes that the PTB see as important and vital just need to be implemented. How will those that voted against the change feel when their wishes are not followed? How would it be different if they had never been asked at all? Would asking the expansive playtesting group been enough to get a consensus?

Actually out of curiosity, does the playtesters thoughts on this reflect the thoughts of this overall vote? Would love to know how well their cross section of thought represents the whole vote.

In the thread on the playtester's board, the playtesters that have posted seem ok with testing the idea, but are split as to whether it would be a good idea. In the interest of full disclosure, I am against the idea. I have played now three games with a deck designed to abuse the rule, and have won 5-1, 5-0, 5-3. In the 5-3 win, my opponent managed to have SoG/NJ with ~30+ cards left in his deck, and rescued the other half of a three-liner (I drew my SoG/NJ in my bottom three cards--yes, I was playing a full-fledged speed deck). In the other two games, the rule didn't affect me at all, as I was easily able to produce enough LS's when I needed them, while at the same time keeping my opponent from possibly blocking me with his own big two.

IMO, not a necessary change, and it won't "fix" any perceived problem with either NJ or speed decks.
