Can someone explain how "Gold Shield" works?

So you enter battle with a Hero, I block with a Gray evil character with Gold Shield on me.  After my ability goes off, I then discard Gold Shield and now you are another color (whatever I pick) and now it goes to who ever's initiative it is.  Because it never passed to special initiative you can only play with cards that are the color I choose.  You CAN NOT play a negate from your original color.
