phase change

Has it been clearly defined what determines the end of one phase and the start of the next?

Example:  Opponent has an artifact active with an ongoing ability (Lampstand, etc) and I discard it during prep phase.  I want to play a card before battle but their artifact ability is stopping me (evil Dom, etc).  Can I declare that I've ended my prep phase and am now in the battle phase where that ability is no longer active so I can play my card?  or does the battle phase only start by putting a character into battle?

The draw phase ends when you've drawn. The upkeep phase ends as soon as all automatic upkeep actions are taken. The prep phase ends either when you attack or decide to move to Discard phase, and both players are done playing Dominants and using Activated Abilities. The Battle Phase ends when both players agree to go to Battle Resolution. The Discard Phase ends when your hand has been reduced to or below the limit and both players are done playing Dominants and using Activated Abilities.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
