Both versions of the card has an ability to stop the current battle immediately. If someone played the card and the battle ended, would it resolve with neither character winning or losing, or would it end like a normal battle would?

The battle ends and the strengths and toughnesses are compared to determine the winning side (or mutual destruction/stalemate).
