Gathered Jerimiah banded to */0 character in goshen

If a gathered Jeremiah bands to a */0 character in goshen will the decreased character return to goshen and become protected when Jeremiah's ability ends for the battle phase?

No. The */0 character will return to the general territory, where it will then be discarded.

Except Goshen says that you can place a Genesis or Exodus hero that is */0 or less into Goshen instead of discarding them... so wouldn't you be able to use that ability?
