I am doing a Bible study on the kings of Israel and Judah. While working on it, I took a little break (like I am right now) and wanted to look at Gates Of Jerusalem. I realize that it might me fun to make a deck using the Kings of Judah/Israel to use during the study (we spend 20 minutes learning about a king and the rest of the hour playing Redemption). However, when I clicked to see who would benefit from the gates, I noticed one major person missing.
Kings and Queens of Judah
Several Redemption® cards specifically reference kings and queens of Judah. The following cards refer to kings and queens of Judah:
• Gates of Jerusalem (P)
The following are considered kings and queens of Judah:
• (Good): King Amaziah (Ki), King Asa (Ki), King Asa (TP), King Azariah (Uzziah) (Ki), King Hezekiah (Ki), King Hezekiah (Pi), King Jehoshaphat (Ki), King Jehoshaphat (Pi), King Joash (Ki), King Joash (Pi), King Josiah (Ki), King Jotham (Ki), and King Solomon (TP)
• (Evil): Athaliah (Wo), Herod Agrippa II (TP), King Abijah (Ki), King Ahaz (Ki), King Ahaz (TP), King Ahaziah (Ki), King Amon (Di), King Amon (Ki), King Jehoahaz (Judah) (Ki), King Jehoiakim (Ki), King Jehoiakin (Ki), King Jehoram (Ki), King Manasseh (Di), King Rehoboam (Di), King Rehoboam (Ki), King Zedekiah (Ki), Manasseh (Pr), and Queen Maachah (Ki)
Where's King David?!?!?!? He was, after all, king over Judah before the two kingdoms united (2 Samuel 2 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Samuel+2&version=NLT))
Also, probably missed the ruling but I thought Herods were not considered kings (though they are royalty). :miss:
-
The Herods were kings of Judea, not Judah.

Then why is one listed as a king of Judah (see bold in EC list)?
-
David you may have a case for but I believe the reason is that David was annointed by god to be king over a united Israel and that Saul son Ish-baal took northern Israel with him when his father died so david did not concede that he was king only of Judah and benjamin but over all of Israel and worked to re-unite the kingdom.
I agree with Pol, the Herods should not be listed there. Judea and Judah are two politically different areas and time periods
-
King David would be a king of Israel, I think.

I do find it odd that David and Saul are not listed as Kings of Judah, but Solomon is. The Kingdom split during Rehoboam's reign. I think that Saul, David and Solomon should be listed as Kings of Israel (as Saul and David are) but not Judah, since Israel can refer to both the United Kingdom and the Northern Kingdom, but Judah specifically refers to the Southern Kingdom.
It has been ruled that HAII isn't protected from Gates of Jerusalem, so I don't know why he is still there.
-
I would like to see David, Saul, and Solomon in both lists. They were kings over the specified area as God's anointed.

Well, is the deciding line between Judah and Israel territorial, or political?
/can't believe we're getting into this in Redemption.
//Not that I should be surprised.
-
They were all politically kings over the territory. ;D
-
So if you're a king of A and B, you're not considered a king of B?
Sounds pretty hokey. Sounds almost like...like...oh yeah, like interrupt, prevent and negate. :P
-
So if you're a king of A and B, you're not considered a king of B?
STAMP, I'd just say you're the king of An'B.
My thoughts on the matter:
I'd divide them up politically. For instance, President Johnston wasn't president of both the United States and the Confederate states, he was US president.

Agreed.

I'm just a lowly prince in MJB's court.

Then I believe Monsieur Solomon needs to be removed.
-
I agree Solomon should be removed.
I protest your use of "Monsieur" when referring to Solomon. I assume you noticed he has two hands raised. I'm pretty sure he was surrendering to God, not the Germans. ;)

Approved for legal play in Type NW. ;D
Watch it! Napoleon conquered (most of) Europe waaay before it was cool.
It's only because people teased him for his height. Once they tired of that and teased him for being French, then he gave up.
-
So, let me get this straight...
A=A+B, B=/=0, or a negative number. That means A=/=A.
What?
Just because they were called the same thing doesn't make them the same thing.
Watch it! Napoleon conquered (most of) Europe waaay before it was cool.
I conquered a nation once, but you've probably never heard of it.

I have no beef if Solomon is taken off (good thing I like chicken more) but the Bible clearly states that David was the king of Judah before the kindoms reunited.

Clearly an annointed, Hebrew, Israelite King of Judah is not a Redemption king of Judah.
:P
