Gates of Samaria/Jerusalem

My opponent attacks with Jacob, plays Reuben's Torn Clothes, ignores brown.  Can I block with my kings of Judah/Israel if I have Gates of Samaria and Jerusalem in territory?  They are protected from opponent's cards, so they can't be targeted by my opponent.  The way I see it, they can't be ignored (since they can't be targeted) until they are already in the field of battle.

Gates of Jerusalem (P)
Type: Fortress • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Protect evil Kings and Queens of Judah in your territory from opponents’ cards. If one blocks, its special ability cannot be negated and you may draw a card.

Gates of Samaria (RA2)
Type: Fortress • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Protect evil Kings of Israel in your territory from opponents. When you play a Samaria Site, increase your evil King of Israel 6/6 to decrease a character 6/6.
If creation sings Your praises so will I
If You gave Your life to love them so will I

Ignore is a 4 part ability. One or two of those parts stops them from entering battle without targeting them.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Pol is correct on the ruling and the reason why.

I dont see an answer anywhere. please explain.

nm- Ill answer it

Ongoing Abilities > Ignore

How to Play
An ignore ability has four parts:

1. it grants the ignoring card immunity to all cards being ignored

2. it grants the ignored cards immunity to the ignoring card

3. characters not in battle and ignored cannot enter battle (i.e., you cannot choose to bring them into battle and they cannot be targeted by an ability that would bring them into battle)

4. characters already in battle and ignored are treated as though they were not in battle for purposes of determining battle outcome

An ignore ability is ongoing.  Part (1) above targets the cards that gain the ignore status.  Parts (2) and (4) above target the cards that are ignored.  Part (3) above has no target.

I still dont understand. If Im protected from your cards- how can you target me for ignore?

Part #3 of ignore doesn't target, it's a game rule.

#3 has no target, but it seems to require that a character be targeted by #2 first (so they'll be ignored).
