What is it about the wording that makes this possible? How do I explain this to other people?
Not entirely. It only works for you and your "opponent." So in multi, it only works for you or someone attacking you. If player A had GT, and player B attacks player C, GT doesn't work for them. EDIT: To answer you question, it's if your "opponent" has a soul. So, in my scenario, your "opponent" doesn't have a soul cause you're not in battle. Does that help?

It does not matter who is attacking whom, as long as those 2 players are both in the battle.
No. Your Garden Tomb only works if you are in a battle (attacking or defending). If you are not in a battle, then you have no current "opponent" to check for a soul.
That's what I was trying to clear up. I just wanted to be sure.
