Characters in Fortresses

I'm pretty sure it's valid to discard a character in Judge's Seat, a fortress that just sits in territory and holds a judge, with anything like Christian Martyr or Great Image. That said...

1. Can I band to a character in my own Stronghold in the Desert? If so, where does it go after the battle?

2. If Three Nails is not active, can I block with a demon from the Pit? If so, where does it go after the battle?

3. Same as above, but if Three Nails is active

--
Stronghold in the Desert: Identifier: Holds any number of OT warrior class human Heroes. SA: Protect contents from opponents' cards. While occupied, each time an opponent plays an Evil Character of a brigade he does not already have in play, discard the top card of his deck.

The Pit: Holder may place a demon with a toughness of */7 or greater on this fortress (or return it to territory) during his preparation phase. While a demon is here, negate Three Nails.

Three Nails Play As: All Heroes ignore demons.

1:  I don't see why that wouldn't work.  And I would assume just back to general Territory.

2:  ...though it doesn't say the character has to be removed during the prep phase...I think that was the intent (like KotW and Goshen).

3:  Have no idea about that one.  I'm inclined to say that as soon as he's out, he can't block...but I don't know.

Sorry if this isn't much help.  :P

When it is not specified, cards can be placed in or out during the Preparation or Discard phases.

1.  Yes.  The heroes in this fortress are not protected from being targeted by any effect.  Discard the hero, band the hero, etc.  After the battle, the hero returns to general territory.  You can only move character in-out of fortresses during prep phase, unless a special ability does it.

2.  No.  No special ability is targeting the character, so it has to wait for a prep phase to release it.

3.  No.  Same reason as #2.

So based on your answers, Bryon, let me revise my The Pit question.

I assume that you can band in a demon from The Pit if Three Nails is not active, for the same reason that you can band to one from Stronghold in the Desert, and that he'll go back to general territory after the block.

If Three Nails is active, can a human band to a demon from The Pit? I assume if he can get to battle, he'll just be ignored once he's there, because the "negate Three Nails" is gone.

well since it says "put a judge in this fortress" (erhm what ever it says) rather then. set "judge aside in the fortress" (or what ever it says). then i would say yes christian martyr would discard a judge in it. however, i say if your opponent played "without food" on his/her judge and his/her opponent discarded that judge with christian martyr. then if you heal it the second it is discarded i say it keeps the low numbers.

thanks,
Austin-
If you heal a Hero who's been diseased they regain their numbers, so no, the hero wouldn't keep the low numbers.

Also, remember that you can heal a character at any time during the turn they are discarded, not just right then.

These seem to be saying opposite things.  I have also heard opposite things from experienced players.  Captain Kirk says that characters may be put into fortresses during discard phase.  Gabe says that you can't.

So which is it?  When can characters be put into Judges Seat, KotW, Kerith Revine, etc.

The rulebook only mentions placing cards in fortresses during the Prep Phase.

Alright thats good to know.  I didn't think to check in the rulebook, and I read this thread before Bryon posted in it and took Schaef's post to confirm my opinion.

I think I disagree on the The Pit point.  You can only move a character in-out of fortress during prep phase, if you are using the fortresses ability to move the character in-out.  I think blocking from The Pit would work just like banding to a character in The Pit.

A character in The Pit is an evil character in my territory, so it satisfies all of the conditions for being used to block.  And there is no protect or similar ability that stops it from blocking (like there is on Kingdoms) so why can't I block with the character in The Pit?

The other examples here are contingent upon the special ability of another card pulling them out of the Fortress.  So no, blocking does not work "just like" banding.

In order to rescue/block with a character, you have to remove the character from that Fortress during your Battle Phase to place it in battle, which specifically contradicts the general rule that you can only remove the character during the Prep phase.
