Foreign wives and drawing

Foreign wives-Search discard pile for Household Idols. If opponent has drawn 5 or more cards this turn, protect Foreign Wives from cards used by opponent. Cannot be negated.

So on the drawing 5 cards part-does the 3 cards my opponent draws on the beginning of his turn count toward that?

Thanks!

What if an opponent draws at least 2 souls in the process of thei draw phase because technically rhat would be 5 cards drawn total?

As far as I know, Lost Souls do not count as draws in that regard, the cards you draw to replace them are what counts.

Because a defensive card that goes in everyone's deck isn't already OP?

Drawing is op so FW gets a pass.

This kind of thinking leads to the death of games. If we always print OP cards to deal with issues in the game instead of solving the problem with new ideas or balanced cards that can be distributed amongst different decks, redemption may have to do a restart or end completely. (I really hope to avoid that end result as I really enjoy this game.).

I would not mind a relaunch, given the absence of set rotation and a limited/restricted/ban list.

I agree. Plus it has also given Mayhem a new boost in decks.

Mayhem is stuffed by naz so not really.

Quite frankly cards tht everyone plays in every deck isn't fun at all.

And that's why I don't play T1 anymore. Just too few really competitive options.

This is where we are different. You like diversity in decks. I like a fun game where I'm trying to get around something or outplay my opponent. FW creates those situations.

When originally discussing Foreign Wives, I was against the card because I assumed it would be overpowered and because it would be in every deck. Having had the chance to play a hundred or so games with the new set, Wives isn't quite as overpowered as I thought it would be. There are ways to make her more overpowered, and drawing her the first turn can be nasty, but she's pretty much useless in the late game (aside from a character who can play most any enhancement). That said, I'm still against staple cards, which she most definitely is. I would argue there's more diversity in decks than we've seen in the last couple years, which is great, but I still think we can have more, and I'm hoping that new sets will continue to work towards that goal.

On another note, why exactly don't additional draws from Lost Souls count towards Foreign Wives? I understand the logic I guess, but I can't find a game rule that addresses this.

I think this is just an executive decision, rather than a game rule. Lost Soul cards are most definitely drawn, otherwise the Hopper's SA would never activate. However, a game procedure does say that you start your turn by drawing 3 cards, so the fact that you may have drawn more (with the Lost Soul cards) does not seem to affect that total.

There was a quote that Gabe? posted from the rulebook/REG in a different thread with a logical answer in the rules to this exact question, but I have been unable to find either the quote or the thread. However, the ruling has been around ever since the E/F days, when a character or enhancement drawing Lost Souls did not allow for extra draws off of Gifts.

I'm not able to search out that quote at the moment. I seem to recall its from the rule book. It basically says that Lost Souls do not count as cards drawn.

From the thread when this last came up

The REG: "When a Lost Soul is drawn it is placed in the owner's Land of Bondage and another card is drawn to replace the Lost Soul. The Lost Soul does not count as one of the cards drawn."

A Lost Soul doesn't count as a drawn card for draw abilities, but the Hopper soul can identify itself as being drawn. I think that makes sense?

I agree and speed is the reason I stopped playing type 1. But with stuff like FW, and golden cherubim artifact the game will slow down a bit and type one desperately needs to slow down.

I wouldn't mind a restrict list for type 2. Something like only 2 CBN enhancements per card.
