Hormah and ECs from Hand

Don't forget Hormah on that list. It's easily splashed in any non-demon defense. You can discard a human EC from hand at the end of your turn to underdeck it and the half rescued Lost Souls card.
Gabe posted this in the Lost Soul ranking discussion thread and I wanted to double check but didn't want to derail that thread. Does this actually work? I had always assumed that "abilities default to in play" applied here and the human EC had to be discarded from play for Hormah to see it and trigger. Though I guess Chamber of Angels doesn't work that way.

Mostly just looking for clarification on why the in-play default doesn't apply to these cards.

Yes Hormah works this way.  Its ability doesn't target anywhere, it just activates whenever a human evil character hits discard.

By default, cards limit their effects, or what they target, to play.  This card is not targeting the EC being discarded.  It is instead being triggered by an event, which is not limited to in-play.

Concur with the ruling.  Also like a different thread with a quote to discuss :)

I was unaware that triggers didn't share the in-play default. Thanks for the clarification!

Just remember that "default to play" applies to targeting and things like Hormah and Chamber will make sense, because the triggering event is not a target, it's a condition happening instead.
