It counts as 1 for deck-building purposes.

To preempt further questions regarding the 2/3-liner: It does have a special ability (not an identifier) and that special ability has been errata'd (changed) to have "Cannot be negated." at the end. You cannot get around its "must rescue twice" aspect.

3-liner has an advantage in Multiplayer, for example, because once one player rescues half no other player can rescue the other half.

Okay awesome... do you only burial a half? Can you even use burial on that card?

You can play Burial on the card and it discards it like any other Lost Soul. A common play is to let an opponent "rescue" half and then play Burial, or give them the Shuffler Lost Soul, or shuffle it with Death of Unrighteous so that the 2/3-liner resets and they lose the half they had.

If a player has rescued both halves of it and the card is in their Land of Redemption, you can play Falling Away and the card will return to your Land of Bondage with one half still being considered "rescued" for that player (though their score decreases by 2 since the half they still have is stuck in territory).

To add on to what browarod said, cards like this one that have 'counters' generally reset when they hit hand, deck, or discard.  That is what he means about it resetting and the rescuer 'losing the half they had'.

If a 2/3 liner has one rescue on it and you use Burial or shuffle it into deck, if it comes back to play again later in the game, then it has no rescues at all :)
