Judas Iscariot vs Centurion's Proclamation

I block with Judas Iscariot, my opponent plays Centurions Proclamation.

Can I opt to use the instead on CP to try to convert Judas, which he is protected from?

If used by a male Hero, interrupt the battle and capture a human Evil Character. Opponent may convert it to a Hero in any brigade instead.

Protect this evil character from convert and discard abilities on opponent's cards while he remains in play. Cannot be negated.

I would agree with Saucer. You can't instead to something that you can not do.

On a related note, does that mean if an opponent has 3 cards left in their deck, and try to use Herod's Temple while they have four lost souls, that they could not complete the Instead?

Olijarr.

Also, Alex is now a pirate...

They wouldn't be able to use Herod's Temple because you must complete the full cost to get the benefit.

Post the SA. Without knowing the SA, I'd say 'yes'. You can't use Jeptahslkdfaklsdjropiadbvuasoidfu's special ability when you have no deck, can you?

If your N.T. human is discarded by a special ability used by an opponent, you may discard a card of matching brigade from hand and the top X cards of your deck instead.  Put Lost Souls in play instead. X = # of your Redeemed Souls

If your dog is dying of opponent's cancer, you may spend one week of time at the vet and pay $50,000 instead.

I spend the time but only pay $10,000. My dog will still die of cancer, and your character will still get discarded (in your less entertaining example)

As sad and wrong as that is, the logic is there.
