Question about Angel of Warning...

Angel of Warning (TP)
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Silver • Ability: 4 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: May look at opponent’s hand, or search deck for a Site or a good Fortress and put it in play. • Play As: May look at opponent’s hand, or search deck for a Site or a good Fortress and place it in play. • Identifiers: Generic NT Male Angel • Verse: Matthew 2:13 • Availability: Thesaurus ex Preteritus booster packs ()

Can the AoW grab a fortress that goes in Set Aside when it specifically says put it in play? Set Aside is not considered in play the last time I checked, but things could have changed I suppose which is why I am asking.

I would like to add another question as well...

If my opponent sets my fortress aside with Samaritan Water Jar and the fortress plays to setaside area when played, can I still use it aka set disciples aside with Fishing Boat or Job aside in DnA?
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

I think I would rule that you could put the fortress (ie. Chamber of Angels) in play.  At that point the SA on CoA would activate and move it to Set Aside.

If my opponent sets my fortress aside with Samaritan Water Jar and the fortress plays to setaside area when played, can I still use it aka set disciples aside with Fishing Boat or Job aside in DnA?
I think I would rule that you can use your own cards that you set aside, but that you can't use your cards that your opponent sets aside.

I agree. My understanding of Set Aside (and I'm probably wrong) cards is that they must be put in play first, at which point the special ability or identifier kicks in and moves them to set aside. Cards like SWJ move them straight to set-aside, so the SA or identifier doesn't ever kick in.

I always understood the "place in set-aside" as an identifier. So if I negate the special ability of a fortress that says it goes in set-aside, then what would happen to it. Would it be in play? Would it be discarded? I personally think the AoW should only do what the card says and place fortresses that go in play in play, not set-aside fortresses in play which then magically float to set-aside.

If a fortress that plays to set aside is already there, negating its ability won't change its location. There's another thread about Fishing Boat that is discussing what happens if something that plays to set aside (via special ability) is negated before it enters play, so we'll have to wait for a ruling on that from there.
